Beginning of Dye Baths

 Beginning of Dye Baths:

1. Sewing different patterns into the fabric

2. Dyeing the fabric to get the patterns:

3. Pulling out the stitching to reveal the patterns created in the dye baths.

Art 21 Assignment

 Art 21 Assignment:

Here is a link to the video of Kara Walker:

Two phrases/words that describe the artist's work:

    - historical and social commentary

    - overwhelming

Sugar Baby by Kara Walker

The Negative Space around this piece helps bring this piece into its true meaning. Similarly, the stark difference in color gives a stunning contrast between the clean white of the sculpture and the dirty mud colors of the sculpture's surroundings.

The Keys to the Coop by Kara Walker

The bold Shape of this work of art helps to further create a stark contrast between the color of the background versus the color of the subject.

Elements and Principles of Art

 Elements and Principles of Art:

This piece was created by Tara Donovan. She was an American Artist and created this piece in 1969. This piece is called Styrofoam Cups. It shows not only asymmetry but also repetition.

This is a personal photo. It also shows asymmetry through the non-symmetrical lines within the piece. On top of this, it shows repetition through the tiny folds and thus marks on the piece.

A Few of My favorite Things

A Few of My Favorite Things:

1. A blue notebook: This is where I have started to write as a sort of diary. A small, simple place in which I can freely express and understand my feelings and the events that go on within my life.

2. A coffee maker: This reminds me of my parents. For my entire life (almost 21 years) they have not failed to have a cup of coffee each day. Now I am following in their footsteps and learning to slowly make coffee for myself.

3. An Ipad in an orange case: A Christmas present from my parents. An easy way for me to express myself, and hopefully the means to achieve one of my greatest goals: to start a comic.

4. Dinosaur salt and pepper shaker: I remember when my mom and I found these at our local target. We both thought they were absolutely adorable and bought them immediately. It was a good day.

5. A worn and disheveled small notebook: This was given to me by my mom on the day I moved into my freshman dorm room. It holds a mother's love for her daughter, a sweet note written inside to encourage me and give me a sense of purpose.

6. A roll of tape: Ever since I was little I was messing around with tape. I made "inventions" of which tape was a key ingredient. My love for tape, and my tendency to overuse it, still stands to this day

7. A list of colors and the codes: In my hope for organization, my love for colors, and my love to be able to easily and quickly know what color looks like, I have created many color codes throughout my life. They always seem to bring me a great deal of happiness.

8. A black marker: In most of my art throughout my life I have tended to draw, paint, create, with a black line around the edge. While I am trying to move away from that in many aspects, I still have a love for black markers and materials, and the intensity and depth that they bring to a piece.

Independent Sculpture 2

In this sculpture, I focus on my childhood and my love of dollhouses as well as collecting small trinkets. I use these two ideas and blend...
